Bride, groom among 11 killed in road accidents

BISWANATH CHARIALI, Jan 31 � Eleven persons lost their lives and several others were seriously injured in two separate road accidents in Sonitpur district this morning.

In the first accident that took place at Kalitagaon near Kalabari under Howajan Police Outpost around 2 am, five labourers were killed on the spot when a brick-laden truck (AS 03 5349) which was on its way from Borgang to Banderdewa skidded off the road on NH-15. They were identified as Ripon Biswas, Jivan Biswas and Pawan Biswas (brothers), Ajit Biswas and Santosh Orang. All the deceased were from Mikirchukgaon in Borgang.

The driver of the truck Narayan Barman and another labourer Ananda Orang, were also seriously injured.

In the other accident, a marriage party travelling in a car (AS 02 K 8613) collided head-on with an oil tanker (AS 07 A 7816) on NH-15 in front of Jamuguri HS School under Jamuguri Police Station around 6-30 am, killing the groom Dilip Kr Sahu (27), bride Asha Sahu (20), Sarita Devi (38) and Surekha Devi (30) on the spot. Two others succumbed to their injuries at a hospital at Tezpur. Two others were also injured in the accident.

A bus coming with the marriage party also skidded off the road, but the passengers escaped unhurt. They were proceeding to Kherani in Karbi Anglong after solemnising the wedding at Mahmara, Jamuguri. Dense fog was believed to be the main reason behind the tragic mishaps.
