SHILLONG, Dec 14 - Renowned speleologist, Brian D Kharpran Daly today launched his book of short stories A Quirk of Fate here at the Shillong Press Club.

A Quirk of Fate is a collection of short stories that reflects the sensitive observations of Daly on the environment he is familiar with.

Some of the stories relate to his caving experiences and also as an environmentalist. There are stories that relate to the environment and some of these are based on my real life experiences, Daly added.

He said that he has always felt an inherent pain over the rampant destruction of the environment, especially in Jaintia Hills due to widespread mining activities.

Daly said he has narrated the stories from the perspective of the people who have lost everything towards these thoughtless mining activities. The stories dont dwell entirely with the environment or caving, but somewhere they reflect the pain and love of the people, he added. On his caving experience of 25 years, Daly said some of the stories deal with the dark underworld and gives an insight with finding the inner self.

In many caving experiences we used to sit together in the dark inside the caves. At some point of time there was a general feeling that there was someone besides us apart from the team. That gave us solace, he said. Dalys book is available at Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
