Breakthrough in cataract surgery

JORHAT, March 29 � A short documentary film on the newly invented and developed technique of cataract operation known as Phacoemulsification without hydro procedures has been selected to be screened at the annual conference of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ASCRS) which is going to be held in Boston, from April 9 to 14.

Noted ophthalmologist of Jorhat Chandraprabha eye Hospital and the inventer of the procedeur, Dr Narayan Bordoloi himself produced the 8 minutes long video, explaining every steps of the new procedure. Along with this Bordoloi is going to present a seminar paper on this subject at the conference.

At a press conference here at Jorhat Press Club today Bordoloi further revealed that he had carried out more than 2000 cataract operations till date by applying it.

A step in conventional cataract operations known as �hydrodissection� can be skipped in the new method.

�It is the the quicker' easier and more advantageious method�, said Bordoloi to the mediapersons. It is safer than the hydrodissection as no external water is used in it, he added.

Earlier Bordoloi presented this method with visual supports in the conference of Delhi Ophthalmology Society held in Delhi and in the conference of All India Opthalmology Society held in Calcutta in 2009 and 2010 respectively.

Bordoloi informed that he is leaving for USA on April 5.
