Breach in Katakhal dyke submerges Hailakandi villages

HAILAKANDI, June 14 - The breach of embankment in Katakhal river at Katagaon in Rajyeswarpur part VII village in Hailakandi district today inundated huge area of the district. The water level is increasing rapidly in Dhaleswari and Katakhal rivers as per the report of Water Resources department.

In Assam-Mizoram bordering Gharmurra area of Hailakandi district, the water level is flowing one meter above the danger level.

The circle officer of Lala, Madhumita Nath today visited the Rajyeswarpur embankment breach area and alerted the SDRF team for relief and rescue operation if the situation worsens.

The water of Katakhal and Dhaleswari rivers have submerged many low lying areas of the villages like Rajyeswarpur, Samarikona, Lalamukh, Kalacherra, Nimaichandpur, Matijuri, Nalubak etc.

The condition of National Highway-154 connecting Mizoram also worsens due to incessant rain. The vehicles are facing extreme difficult to cross the Gramthan area of the district.
