Braveheart Gunjan hurt in road mishap

GUWAHATI, Jan 1 � Gunjan Sarma, the class VIII student of Kendriya Vidyalaya at Nazira, who volunteered herself to be abducted to save 10 other kids from the clutches of armed miscreants in Simaluguri area in Sivasagar district on December 4 last year, sustained injuries along with her family members when the car they were travelling in met with an accident early this morning in Hatikhuli area on the National Highway 37 near Bokakhat.

Gunjan, along with five others, including her parents, was on her way to Guwahati to receive the first State Bravery Award, instituted in her name by the Government.

The incident took place when the vehicle (ML 10 5816) lost control and crashed into a bridge and fell off the road around 4 am.

Following the incident, the Government postponed the award function which was to be held today at ITA Cultural Complex here.

All the injured, including Gunjan, have been shifted to the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital and are stated to be out of danger. Gunjan sustained multiple injuries and had fractured one of her legs. Gunjan�s sister was later referred to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, sources said.

Our Kohora Correspondent adds: Gunjan�s father Shankar Sharma�s condition is also stated to be critical owing to multiple injuries.
