Brajanath Sharma memorial drama fest from Sept 21

GUWAHATI, June 23 - The 13th Annual Brajanath Sharma Memorial Inter-State Drama Festival will be organised here by the Samahar Natya Gosthee in September with the participation of theatre groups from across Assam as well as other States.

The seven-day festival, which has been supported by the Union government's Ministry of Culture, will begin from September 21 at the District Library auditorium here, said a press release issued today.

In a meeting held recently at its office, Samahar constituted the organising committee for the event, which is held annually in the hallowed memory of the father of Assamese moving theatre and freedom fighter Brajanath Sharma.

Lyricist Kirtikamal Bhuyan, social activist Abani Sutradhar, veteran journalist Baikuntha Goswami, Professor Emeritus of Gauhati University cum writer Dr Khanin Chowdhury and music composer Bibhuranjan Choudhury are among the advisors of the organising committee.

The theatre group�s president Lalit Sarma is the president of the Committee, while theatre personality and filmmaker Dr Sitanath Lahkar is the general secretary. As part of the procedure followed every year, different groups will be invited to perform at the festival depending on the quality of the plays and standard of performance.
