BPF to face tough challenge at Salbari

By Correspondent

BARAMA, March 13 With the BTC polls approaching, the candidates in 21 Salbari constituency have geared themselves up for the polls. The poll will be held in April. The ruling Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) has fielded Bhubaneswar Goyari while PCDR has named Binod Mushahary from this constituency. The Nirdaliya Aikya Mancha has nominated Tapan Swargiyari as the candiadate from the constituency and the Aboro Surakshya Samiti has named Sakradhar Das from the constituency.

However, Congress, BJP, AIUDF, Sanmilita Janagosthiya Aikya Mancha are yet to declare the names of their candidates from the constituency.

Congress party sources said that the party is likey to field Nakul Boro from the constituency. Several others names, however, including Keshab Das, Biswajit Basumatary and Dibya Basumatary are also doing the rounds, said a local Congress leader.

On the other hand, BJP is likely to nominate Bijon Swargiyari from the Bodo- community dominated seat.

The Sanmilita Janagosthiya Aikya Mancha is, however, searching for a non-Bodo tribal candidate. It may be mentioned that 21 Salbari constituency is reserved for Scheduled Tribes.

On the other hand, differences have cropped up between sitting MCLA Ranjit Kherkatary and the BPF party, sources said. Kherkatary, who was elected from the seat in the last BTC polls on a BPF ticket, is now mulling to contest as an independent candidate from the constituency. Sources said if he contests as an Independent candidate, BPF is unlikely to win the seat this time.

Voters in the constituency have already rejected Hagrama Mohilary-led BPF, said a supporter of Kherkatary on condition of anonymity.
