BPF to be important factor in new govt: Hagrama

By CORRESPONDENT

UDALGURI, April 9 The Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) is going to play a very important role in the formation of the new government and I must tell you that due to the rapid development in the region, the BPF will emerge as an important factor to form the new government. This was said by BTC Chief Hagrama Mahilary at a massive election rally of the party at the Bishnu Rabha Kristi Sangha premises here at Udalguri today in support of Rihon Daimari, the party candidate for the elections slated to be held on April 11 next.

Elaborating on the pace of development, the BTC Chief said that the pace of development in Udalguri district is clearly seen now and the people will get more benefits in the form of an agricultural and engineering college and a campus of Bodoland University within five years. Referring to the recent incidents of threats and violence, Mahilary said, people should after all elect an ideal, a good man who can guide all in a right track, but I have come to know that some elements believed to be of a regional opposition party are threatening voters and physically assaulting them too and it is not a good sign at all as it is not a healthy democracy then. Referring to the formation of the Bodo National Coference, the BTC Chief said, we are working for permanent peace in the region and with this goodwill we persuaded the Union government to initiate talks with the NDFB and ULFA also and the Union government has also initiated the process now.

Mahilary then appealed to the people of Udalguri LAC to turn deaf ears to any forces threats and support his party for speedy development.

Rihon Daimari, PHE minister and BPF candidate from 69 Udalguri LAC in his speech said that the threatening to the BPF supporters and workers from the UDPF was indeed putting positive impact on the voters and he hoped that he would emerge victorious with a record margin of votes as people have now started defying such threats. Addressing the congregation, Biswajit Daimary, MP of Rajya Sabha said that BTC was the outcome of the hard earned struggle of the people of the BTC region and the Congress cant claim credits for prevailing peace and development in the region. He also criticised the Union Home Minister P Chidambaram who addressed a Congress election rally at Udalguri yesterday saying that for the party he could deliver lecture up to 42 minutes while when someone goes to him with problems, he could not find even 15 minutes to give a patient hearing to the problems in New Delhi.
