BPF bags 5 out of 7 seats in Chirang dist

BONGAIGAON, Dec 12 - The Bodoland People�s Front (BPF) has won 5 seats, United People�s Party Liberal (UPPL) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) one each out of the seven council seats in Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) polls, 2020 in Chirang district.

Tough contest between BPF and UPPL contenders had kept people of the district in utter suspense since the counting of ballots started at around 8 am today.

Finally, BPF candidate Paniram Brahma won the Kajalgaon council seat defeating his nearest rival and UPPL candidate Rwngwra Narzary by a margin of 3996 votes.

Former National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) leader and BPF nominee Saikong Basumatary alias B Saoraigwra has registered his victory from Chirang council seat defeating UPPL contestant Maoti Brahma Hajowary by 1339 votes.

Another former hardcore NDFB leader and UPPL candidate Ranjit Basumatary alias BR Ferenga has won the Chirang Duar seat defeating former Deputy Chief of BTC and BPF candidate Kampa Borgoyari by 2143 votes.

BPF contender James Basumatary bagged the Nichima council seat defeating UPPL candidate Nirmal Kumar Brahma by 2781 votes.

BPF candidate Prabhat Basumatary has won Subaijhar seat defeating UPPL candidate Guneswar Goyari by 2006 votes.

BPF contender Dhananjay Basumatary has won the Manas Serfang seat defeating UPPL candidate Suresh Daimary by 1863 votes.

BJP contestant Abhiram Mahanayak has won the Thuribari (Open) seat by defeating AIUDF candidate Khalilur Rahman by 2263 votes.

Over 78 per cent of 3,68,199 voters of seven council seats in Chirang district had cast their ballots for 34 candidates in the second and final phase of BTC polls on December 10.
