Boxing champ Ankushita Boro generates voter awareness

TEZPUR, March 24 - Youth icon and winner of the AIBA World Youth Women�s Boxing Championship-2017 Ankushita Boro participated in an awareness programme for the voters in Tezpur town yesterday.

She is also the �brand ambassador� for the Systematic Voters� Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme under Tezpur constituency.

District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner Narsing Pawar flagged off the rally from Court Chariali and appealed to the voters to come out on the day of the poll and take part in the voting process.

Speaking at the programme, Ankushita Boro made a fervent appeal to the people, especially the first-time voters to take part in the election by casting their votes on April 11.

A motor rally taken out on the occasion traversed through Tezpur town and carried posters and banners for creating awareness about the importance of election, which saw participation by youths and leading citizens. A theme song for voters� awareness was also recorded by the district SVEEP Cell. Senior district administration officials also joined the rally which was accompanied by a cultural troupe.

On the other hand, a model polling station was set up at the premises of the Deputy Commissioner�s office which was inaugurated by the DC. The polling station has functioning EVM and VVPAT machines for viewing by the public in a bid to create awareness about their functioning.

In view of the upcoming Lok Sabha election, the District Election Office here has been carrying out varied awareness campaigns all over the district in order to increase electoral participation and ensure 100 per cent polling under the Systematic Voters� Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme.

Various rallies, street plays and other activities have also been carried out to encourage the youth and first-time voters to exercise their franchise. Similar awareness programmes are also being carried out on the functioning of EVMs and VVPATs.
