SILCHAR, Oct 7 - Amidst simmering tension over the incineration of a person�s body and growing demands of justice by the family over the past one week, the mortal remains of Badal Saotal, who was killed in a road accident at Moinargarh under Borkhola constituency, was dug out from the burial place at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) in the wee hours on Wednesday and handed over to his wife Reena Saotal for formal burial.
It may be mentioned that after the incident on September 30, police had claimed that Badal�s body was received by his father-in-law Mukul Saotal. But Reena and others in the family were in no mind to accept this and alleged that the police and the district administration were responsible for the mysterious burial of the body at the SMCH.
However, on Tuesday, the Cachar district administration had agreed to hand over the body to Badal�s family. Accordingly, as per instructions of the administration, the officials with police and CRPF personnel monitored the proceedings from the SMCH burial ground to Moinargarh where the body was identified and handed over to Reena. Badal was laid to rest in his native village in Bauna Basti at 12 pm.
Meanwhile, Reena Saotal has sought adequate compensation from the district administration. �The bread-earner of our family is dead. Please compensate me adequately or take responsibility of my three sons,� she said.
