Bora for increase in sports budget

By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, July 15 Ruling party legislator Bhupen Bora today demanded enhancement of sports budget for the development of sports in the State.

Raising the issue on the floor of the State Assembly today, Bora said the present sports budget is not enough to fulfil the needs of sportspersons and to develop sports infrastructure in the State.

Bora also urged the Government to implement a sports policy so that the sporting activities are streamlined. The MLA, who is also president of the Assam Volleyball Association, feels the game of volleyball is neglected despite being a popular sports event in the State. He demanded specific allocation of funds for volleyball.

Replying on the issue, Sports Minister Bharat Chandra Narah said already a draft of the State Sports Policy has been prepared and circulated to all the State sports associations through the Assam Olympic Association. The draft is also available in the State Governments website and suggestions have been invited from sportspersons.
