Boost to Cong

GUWAHATI, July 5 � The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) today claimed that over 500 members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the All Assam Bhojpuri Yuva Parishad (AABYP) members, including some BJP and AABYP leaders, joined it at a function held at the Rajiv Bhawan here today under the presidentship of APCC president Anjan Dutta.

APCC spokesman Amal Narayan Patowary said in a statement here this evening that BJP�s Hojai zonal committee SC Morcha secretary Sanjay Sarkar, BJP Hojai district committee�s ex-treasurer Satish Chauwe, BJP Karbi Anglong district Mailu zonal committee secretary Renuka Devi, BJP Naharkatia town zonal committee vice-president Roshan Kumar Shah, AABYP�s state committee treasurer Abhijit Singh, AABYP assistant secretary Dharmendra Chauhan and AABYP Dhekiajuli committee secretary Balbir Roy today joined the Congress along with their followers numbering over 500.

APCC president Dutta welcomed them to the fold of the Congress and expressed the hope that their joining would strengthen the Congress and secular forces and add a new momentum to the State�s process of development.

The function was attended by senior Congress leaders Dwijen Sarma, APCC vice-president Abu Saleh Nijamuddin, general secretaries Ramesh Jain, Bichitra Choudhury, Dhiren Nath and senior spokesman Apurba Kumar Bhattacharya. It was also addressed by APCC secretary Parasuram Dubey and Amal Narayan Patowary.
