By CORRESPONDENT

BARPETA, Nov 19 - Literature and cultural unit of the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Barpeta organised a special programme on Sunday to formally inaugurate two books and an audio CD compiled by veteran writer, thinker and adept administrator and Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta, Thaneswar Malakar. The programme held in the forecourt of the residence of the Deputy Commissioner was presided over by Vaishnavite scholar and retired professor of Madhab Choudhury College, Barpeta, Dr Babul Chandra Das.

Releasing the book Rangial Phool, writer, academician and former president of Barpeta District Sahitya Sabha, Akshyay Kumar Mishra lauded the efforts of Malakar, who spares time to study human beings and society and depict them in his writing in a very attractive manner.

Releasing another book titled Prabandhar Dare, senior journalist and columnist Haidar Hussain said that at a time when most of the people, specially those in the helm of affairs, have lost human values and become too selfish to remember even their parents, there are a few men who have kept the society vibrant in true sense of the term. Vehemently criticising the ongoing corrupt practices by politicians and bureaucrats and the lack of intention to serve their compatriots, Hussain said that those who have no responsibility towards their nation are bastards.

In his presidential address, Dr Babul Chandra Das narrated in short about the history and characteristics of the books and wished Thaneswar Malakar a good luck. Dr Binita Bora Dev Choudhury, who inaugurated the audio CD, also delivered a valuable speech on the occasion.

Earlier, Arjun Chandra Das, retired principal of MC College, inaugurated the meet by lighting the ceremonial lamp.
