GUWAHATI, Dec 28 Atmajar Atmanusandhan, a book on the life and exploits of great Assamese nationalist Nibaran Bora authored by Arundhatee Dutta and published by Alibut was released at a function at the ongoing Guwahati Book Fair today.
Veteran trade unionist Rakhal Dasgupta who released the book in the presence of a distinguished gathering recalled his association with the late Bora, and described him as a staunch nationalist who refused to compromise with his principles irrespective of the situations he had been in.
He had been at the forefront of every single nationalistic cause of the State. A profoundly learned man, Bora was a living encyclopaedia with command over several languages, he said.
Senior journalists Ajit Bhuyan, in their speeches, highlighted the qualities of the head and heart of Bora, terming him as a legendary nationalist.
His times and exploits coincided with the troubled times the State was undergoing. He was the think-tank behind the Assam Agitation but he was badly let down by the student leaders later. Bora was made of different mettle though, and he never complained nor did he ever speak ill of others. A selfless leader, he directed all his energy towards addressing the concerns of the people and the State, he said.
Bhuyan said that Boras varied, eventful and exciting life could well have formed the core of any literary piece, especially novels, but it was sad that no writer of Assam thought about it.
Senior journalist Haidar Hussain, Dilip Hazarika, Ajay Dutta, author Arundhatee Dutta who is also the daughter of Nibaran Bora, and Prof Deven Dutta also addressed the gathering.
