Book on martyr Kushal Konwar released

GUWAHATI, June 15 - A book on Quit India Movement martyr Kushal Konwar titled Kushal Konwar, written by Bhupendra Kumar Goswami, was released at a function held at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra here this afternoon.

The book release marked the 75th anniversary of Konwar's martyrdom today. He was hanged by the of other martyrs like him.

�It is essential that the supreme sacrifices made by martyrs like Kushal Konwar are known by people outside the State as well. It is for their ultimate sacrifice that we are enjoying the fruits of freedom,� he said.

Social Welfare Minister Pramila Rani Brahma, who was the guest of honour on the occasion, lauded the author for coming up with a volume on the great martyr.

Author Bhupendra Kumar Goswami, who is a former banker, director and actor, recalled the martyrdom of Konwar and said he would also hold a stage play on Kushal Konwar based on his book in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Kamrup (Metro) district administration held a public programme at the Nehru Park here to commemorate the 75th birth anniversary of Kushal Konwar.
