Book on Goddess Kamakhya released

GUWAHATI, Nov 4 - A book Kamakhya, The Mother Goddess, written by Dr Priyam Goswami, retired professor and head of the Department of History, Gauhati University, was released by veteran journalist and former editor of The Sentinel, Dhirendra Nath Bezboruah, on behalf of the publishers, Orchid Publication on Monday.

At a function held at Swahid Nyas Bhawan here, Prof Goswami explained how the Mother Goddess has remained the symbol of Assam�s sculpture and history. Apart from the history and tradition, she has included in the book, chapters on ten manifestations of the Devi, aspects of the architectural features of the temple, inscriptions found there and festivals, rites and rituals held in the temple.

Sculptor-artist Biren Singha and designer Nirup Rajkumar have designed the book with the help of photographs provided by Biju Boro and Bhaskar Gogoi.
