Book on elephant care released

GUWAHATI, April 4 � Elephant Care, a book on elephant healthcare and management, authored by internationally acclaimed elephant expert from the state Dr Kushal Konwar Sarma, was released recently in Guwahati.

Suresh Chand, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife), and Chief Wildlife Warden, as chief guest of the function released the volume and highlighted the need of such a work for the guidance of the new generation of elephant veterinarians and management workers.

Prof PC Bhattacharjee, noted environmentalist and former Professor of Gauhati University also appreciated the contribution of the author on elephant literature.

The function was held to mark the formal inauguration of an eleven-day training programme of veterinary university teachers on elephant management being held in the state named �Training of Trainers on the Advancement of Elephant Healthcare and Managerial Practices.�

It was attended by twenty participants coming from various regions of India and other elephant range countries of Asia. Dr K K Sarma is the director of the course funded by the Directorate of Project Elephant, MoEF, New Delhi and the event was organized in collaboration with Aaranyak, a press release mentioned.
