Book on contemporary issues launched

GUWAHATI, Aug 28 - Media Adviser to Chief Minister Hrishikesh Goswami launched Rajib Prakash Baruah�s Contemporary Issues and Concerns, a collection of thought-provoking essays, in the Chief Secretary�s conference hall here today.

Goswami related how a writer�s exposure to events and happenings in life and interaction with distinguished persons from various fields enrich him and his readers. He spoke on how a proper presentation of an insignificant happening can have a lasting impact on readers. In this context he referred to historian Surjya Kumar Bhuyan�s remarks and his personal experiences with Dr Maheshwar Neog, Dr Nirmal Prabha Bordoloi and other distinguished personalities.

Goswami also referred to the contribution of Rajib Prakash Baruah�s father Harendranath Baruah to Assamese journalism and social life.

He highlighted some specific aspects of the life and works of Dr Bhupen Hazarika, saying that the young generation can benefit from the teachings of humanity as reflected in Dr Hazarika�s works.

Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna recalled the times of working with Rajib Prakash Baruah. He lauded Baruah�s sincerity and devotion and hoped that he would continue with his service as a socially conscious writer with the same zeal and vigour.

State Information Commissioner Samudragupta Kashyap said the writer has focused on various aspects of public life and duties of a citizen in his book. Baruah has truly upheld the rich legacy of his father, he added.
