By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 25 - The Design, The Betrayal, The Assam Movement, a book written by Basanta Deka on the six-year-long anti-alien Assam agitation was released at a function at the Uzanbazar Swahid Nyas here yesterday by noted writers Dr Nagen Saikia and Arup Kumar Dutta.

A press release issued here today stated that releasing the book, Dr Saikia described the book as a reliable document on the history of Assam Movement. Dr Saikia said that the book will help in removing doubts about the causes of the Assam Movement still lingering in some minds. Relying on facts and figures, the author has critically analysed the long history of neglect Assam has suffered over the decades.

Rating the book as authentic, Arup Dutta outlined the difference between Assamese identity and Assamese nationalism. He maintained that most of the States rulers possessed Assamese identity without being Assamese nationalists. He criticized the post-1950 Assamese politicians for surrendering the Assamese cause to pan-Indian nationalism. He urged everyone interested in the future of the State to read the book in which the author has done some plain-talking.

The book has been dedicated to All Assam Students Union (AASU) advisor Samujjal Bhattacharyya who rated it as the best gift of his life, said the press release.
