Book launch at NE Writers� Forum

GUWAHATI, Nov 9 - A book of short stories What If by Reshma NC Shah was launched on Thursday by Dhruba Hazarika, author and bureaucrat and Swapnil Bharali, editor, Gplus, at the office of the North East Writers� Forum (NEWF) here, according to a press release today.

The book is a collection of short stories on how life changes dramatically for people when they take certain decisions.

Before the launch, Nurul Laskar, communication consultant moderated a panel discussion on the topic �Is the writer as activist dead today?� Dr Srutimala Duara from Handique Girls� College said that writers can be called influencers more than activists. Swapnil Bharali said journalists must have an activist in them to do their job well.

The panel concluded that the modern writers of novels or short stories are not activists per se but they can become so when they take action for a cause.

Speaking on the occasion, Dhruba Hazarika said one must have curiosity to become a good writer. He said one must ask questions to evolve as a writer.

Rashmi Narzary, author and Sahitya Akademi Award winner, delivered the welcome address. SM Farid, trade consultant and entrepreneur, gave the vote of thanks. Reshma Shah, author of the debut book, is a teacher trainer, motivational speaker and education consultant.
