Book donation programme held

GUWAHATI, Sept 19 - Honouring the memory and legacy of late Sattradhikar Bhadra Krishna Goswami, a book donation programme was organised at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, Panjabari here today.

In the programme, around 700 books were donated to the Kalakshetra library, some of which include his original works.

Sattradhikar Goswami was a socio-cultural envoy of Assam and known for his distinguished pursuit in the field of arts, culture and literature.

He was a keen believer of right to education and a dedicated exponent of the Sattra culture. He even went an extra mile to get the youngsters acquainted with the Sattra's myriad facets and ardently explored the religious and spiritual dimension of Srimanta Sankaradeva's Vaishnavait beliefs.

Sattradhikar Goswami was the Sattradhikar of Jokai Sattra in Sivasagar. He was twice elected as the president and later served as an advisor to the Asom Sattra Mahasabha, where his immense contribution and relentless hard work towards the uplift and conservation of the Sattras in Assam were lauded with praises, gratitude and respect from all across the globe.

He was awarded the Life Time Contribution to Literature Award by Sahitya Sabha and literary award and pension by the Education department.

Because of the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic and related constraints, the Sattra Adhikar Bhadra Krishna Goswami Memorial Committee organised the event in a simple manner with support from the immediate family members of the scholar.

The books included for this donation drive were from the Sattradhikar's collection.

The programme was attended by Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra secretary Sudarsan Thakur with his staff, apart from the members of the memorial committee, including B Paul Muktieh, advisor to the committee and NEDFi CMD and other office bearers Beby Bhuyan, Dibya Rekha Goswami, Mitali Goswami Trochin, Victor Trochin, Andrei Trochin among others.
