By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 8 - The 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, the present head spiritual leader of the Tibetan Buddhism, who is a recipient of the Nobel Prize for Peace for his non-violent struggle to liberate Tibet from Chinese occupation, is one of the most revered spiritual leaders of the world, who commands reverence even from the people who are followers of religions other than Buddhism. He can boast of countless fans across the globe for the stature he maintains as a spiritual leader and as a consistent fighter for the cause of the Tibetan people.

Ramanuj Dutta Choudhury, Deputy Editor of The Assam Tribune, has written a book on the 14th Dalai Lama in Assamese, titled Dalai Lamar Sandhanot, where he has narrated two meetings he had had with the spiritual leader. In the book, he has also given an outline of the freedom struggle of the Tibetan people, besides glimpses of the childhood and youth of the Dalai Lama and the tale of his scrupulously arranged secret journey to India.

The book titled Dalai Lamar Sandhanat is published by the States leading publication house Lawyers Book Stall.

There are two other books on the Dalai Lama in Assamese Mor Desh aru Mor Manuh and Dharmar Urdhat which are Assamese adaptations of the original books written by the Dalai Lama himself. This book penned by Dutta Choudhury is an original one.

On the motive which drove Dutta Choudhury to write this book, Bhaskar Dutta Baruah of the Lawyers Book Stall told this correspondent that Dutta Choudhury had told him once that he considered himself fortunate enough to have got a chance to meet a legend like the Dalai Lama, and, his nonconforming personality motivated him to write this book.

Dalai Lamar Sandhanat is the seventh book written by Dutta Choudhury. Earlier, he had authored 50 Years of Chinese Aggression; Porous Border a book in English on the porous Indo-Bangla border; Sangram an Assamese novel; Xagoror Pora Paharoloi a travelogue in Assamese, Against All Odds a novel in English, and Match Fixing a novel in Assamese meant specially for those readers who are in their adolescence.
