NAGAON, Nov 21 - On the occasion of the birth centenary of renowned physician late Dr Upananda Saikia of Nagaon�s Fauzdaripatty area, his book �Anusandhan� was released at a function held at the auditorium of Mahapurush Srimanta Shankardeva University here on Wednesday.
Noted Assamese litterateur Upendranath Barkotoki unveiled the book on spiritual philosophy at the function organised by Saikia�s family members. The function was presided over by veteran literary critic Prabhat Bora.
Saikia, who was an Army Medical Officer, had served in Japan towards the end of the Second World War and rendered medical aid to the people of the war-ravaged country.
After releasing the book, Barkotoki said that Dr Saikia was a man of versatile genius and a responsible Army official.
Referring to the book, Barkotoki said, �The book tries to elaborate what is �Aatma� and how it inherits a body and for that Dr Saikia had gone through the Bhagavad Gita, Vedas and Upanishads.�
He further said that self-sensibility is such a hidden source of energy, which can awake consciousness.
Dr Kandarpa Kumar Deka, Vice Chancellor of Mohapurush Srimanta Shankardeva University, graced the occasion as the chief guest. In his speech, Dr Deka appreciated Dr Saikia�s family for organising the function and described Saikia as a stalwart in the fields of art, culture and literature.
Retired Army officer Arnab Bharali and ex-MLA Mridula Saharia also attended the function and spoke about the life and works of Dr Saikia.
