Bongaigaon Refinery upgraded for producing BS-VI grade fuels

BONGAIGAON, Feb 8 - Bongaigaon Refinery (BGR) is well-equipped, aided by its modern technology to produce Bharat Stage (BS)-VI grade petroleum fuels, said its Chief General Manager (CGM) incharge GC Sikdar at a press meet held recently at the VIP Guest House in the refinery township.

Considering the detrimental impact of pollution in the environment, the union government had announced the April 1, 2020 deadline for adopting BS-VI emission norms according to which the BS-VI grade fuel has to contain only 10 parts per million (ppm) of sulphur.

Meanwhile, the refinery which is located in Chirang district�s Dhaligaon, has received four awards for its outstanding performance on safety, energy and environment.

It produces liquefied petroleum gas-50 to 60,000 metric tons (TMT), diesel-1, 200 to 1,300 TMT, petrol-220 to 250 TMT, superior kerosene oil (SKO)-100 to 120 TMT and aviation turbine fuel (ATF)-45 to 50 TMT per year.

The refinery has planned to enhance its crude oil processing capacity from the existing 2.35 million metric ton per annum (MMTPA) to 4.50 MMTPA under the North East Hydrocarbon Vision 2030.

The BGR, which is the 8th refinery of Indian Oil, had initiated a course on fire and safety at Bongaigaon Polytechnic last year, launched skill development programmes for rural youths, provided 10 pink-coloured autorickshaws to 10 women of self-help groups of Bongaigaon, adopted Goalpara as aspirational district, granted funds for the construction of toilet blocks in schools and drinking water facilities to the people of backward rural areas near the India-Bhutan border under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Sikadar said.

Refinery officials present during the press briefing were Kailash Pati, Chief General Manager (Project); RKK Singha, General Manager (TS) and Bhaskar Hazarika, General Manager (HR); Naba Jyoti Das, DGM (HR) and D Nandi, DGM (TS).
