Bongaigaon, Lakhimpur take lead

GUWAHATI, April 3 - Bongaigaon and Lakhimpur took first innings lead against Silchar and Jorhat respectively in their quarterfinal league matches of the Nuruddin Ahmed Trophy Senior Inter District Cricket Tournament.

On the final day of the two-day match played today at the ACA Stadium in Barsapara, Bongaigaon scored 269 in reply to Silchar�s first innings total of 220 and with the 49-run first innings lead Bongaigaon gained three points against Silchar�s one.

At one stage Bongaigaon were in trouble with the scoreboard reading 178 for seven. But a fine 66-run partnership between Kon Urang and Debodeep Nag saw the day through for Bongaigaon. Kon top scored with 57 while Silchar bowler Rahul Singh came out with a fifer.

In the second innings, Silchar were 41 for two at close of play.

Lakhimpur get 3 points: At the NF Railway Stadium in Maligaon, Lakhimpur gathered three points against Jorhat in the drawn match.

In reply to Lakhimpur�s first innings total of 252, Jorhat, resuming at 4/0, were all out for 162 in 55.4 overs. Jitumoni Kalita (6/54) and Hrishikesh Borah (4/64) wrecked the Jorhat innings with devastating spells.

In the second innings, Lakhimpur declared their innings at 84 for four. Requiring 177 for an outright victory in the second innings, Jorhat were 96 for six at the end of the day�s play.
