BONGAIGAON, March 22 - The number of road mishaps has decreased in Bongaigaon district in recent times due to increased awareness among people, said Kaushik Sankar Saikia, Regional Manager, 108 Mrityunjay Ambulance service.

Addressing a press meet at the Greater Bongaigaon Press Club here recently in connection with the completion of nine years of ambulance service in the district, Saikia said that the number of road accidents has considerably dropped in the district compared to the past years due to increased awareness among the people and strategies adopted by the District Transport Department and the Traffic Police.

Saikia said the use of ambulance for shifting patients from one hospital to another for better medical care has also decreased because of modern medical facilities available in hospitals in the district.

At present, 13 Mrityunjay ambulances, eight 102 ambulances and 5 Adarani vans (for carrying mother and newborn to their home from hospital after delivery) are in service in the district, he added.

D Prasad, Marketing and Communication Officer, Gunupati Venkata Krishna Emergency Management and Research Institute (GVK EMRI), Hyderabad, Programme Manager Bhaskar Jyoti Das, Information and Public Relations Officer Binu Rajbongshi, Fleet Coordinator Samaresh Saha and Emergency Management Executive Mizanur Rahman were also present at the press meet.
