BONGAIGAON, June 22 - The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) had awarded grade C' to Bongaigaon College after its recent assessment.

A three-member NAAC team had visited the college on June 10. The team, comprising of Tripura University Vice Chancellor Dr Arunoday Saha, Professor from the Central University of Kashmir Dr Parveen Akhter Pandit and Principal of Silver Jubilee Government College at Kurnool, Dr Mallepogu Nagaraju had visited the college and inspected the library which has a rich collection of books, along with other academic units of the institution.

They subsequently interacted with the heads of the various departments and members of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell of the college.

Abdul Khaleque, who is a recenly elected parliamentarian from Barpeta constituency and the president of the alumni association of the institution, had placed a demand before the team to grant an extended univerity campus in the college, said the Associations vice president Jyotirmoi Baishya.

The team members expressed satisfaction over the well established infrastructure of the college and praised its Department of Philosophy before its stakeholders prior to their exit on June 11.

However, the NAAC team finally bracketed the college under C grade. Earlier, the college is credited with bagging A and B grade respectively during similar NAAC assessments.

Deteriorating educational atmosphere, the college Principals alleged negligence, entry of party politics among the students, inactive role of the college governing body and vested interest of a section of college teachers are some of the factors behind such poor performance of this educational institution, some socially conscious guardians and former students alleged.
