Bolin Bordoloi sulks as Cong opts for Bobbeeta

By

GUWAHATI, March 29 - Senior Congress leader Bolin Bordoloi today expressed unhappiness after being denied party ticket from Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency for the forthcoming general elections.

Bordolois reaction came after the Congress party announced the name of Bobbeeta Sharma as its candidate from Guwahati.

I was pretty confident (about getting party ticket). I did a lot of groundwork in the constituency. I was also told by people concerned in Delhi that I would get the ticket. I cannot understand what happened at the last moment, Bordoloi told The Assam Tribune.

Bordoloi was one of the major contenders for Congress party ticket from Guwahati.

The senior leader, who is also the son of Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi, said he had sought party candidature twice earlier also.

I have been trying to get party ticket since 2001. Earlier, I tried for the Assembly elections. But luck never favoured me in my earlier attempts. But this time, I was pretty sure about being nominated. I have been going around the constituency and the response I got from the people was amazing. I do not know what happened at the last moment, said Bordoloi.

Asked what might be the reason for denial of ticket to him, Bordoloi said, It is difficult to say. All this has taken place so suddenly. Something might have happened. After the kind of assurance that I had received, it is obvious that doubts will rise in my mind at the way things turned out. But right now, I cannot pinpoint as to what may be the case.

Bordoloi said he has not taken a decision about whether he will now campaign for Sharma.

Asked if he will continue in the Congress party, Bordoloi said, I have not decided anything. I had got an offer from the BJP a few years back. But I refused (to cross over) because of my family heritage. My conscience did not allow me to take such an action.
