By Staff Correspondent

DIBRUGARH, Sept 18 Minister for Power, Commerce and Industry Pradyut Bordoloi today said that the Bogibeel Bridge coming up over the River Brahmaputra near here would be commissioned in 2014.

Bordoloi, while addressing mediapersons at Circuit House here, said that Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi had personally taken up the matter with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and was assured that the flagship project would be completed by 2014. Bordoloi said that the Chief Minister had informed the Prime Minister about the snail pace of construction work on the Bogibeel Bridge.

Replying to a query related to the Rs 5460-crore Assam Gas Cracker project coming up at Lepetkata in Dibrugarh, the minister said 22 per cent physical progress has been made so far. Due to inclement weather since February the civil construction work was badly hampered. Since work has speeded up now we expect to achieve 60 per cent progress in the next 6 to 8 months, Bordoloi said.

He further disclosed that from October this year, another 8000 workers would be needed for the petrochemical project as against the present workforce of 6000.
