TURA, Sept 21 - The body of an alleged victim of witch-hunting, Sengra Marak (32), was exhumed on Friday following suspicion that his death occurred due to unnatural factors. Marak, who had been ailing, allegedly lost his life after unidentified villagers tried to exorcise the ghost that possessed him.
Though some villagers claimed that he died a natural death, videos and photos prior to Maraks death raised suspicions. Following circulation of the videos and photos on the social media, the North Garo Hills Police have started a probe and exhumed Maraks body in the presence of a magistrate.
A post mortem was conducted on the spot and we are awaiting the results. Action in the case will follow after we get the results of the medical examination, confirmed North Garo Hills SP Billy Graham Marak.
The incident took place at Dobakkol village under the Bajengdoba Police Station in North Garo Hills on September 14. According to sources, the victim was taken to an exorcist to cure his illness. Marak allegedly succumbed to injuries on September 15 after the overnight torture on his body.
