AJYCP demand: The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba-Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) has sent a memorandum to the Prime Minister of India, seeking full autonomy to Assam for its all-round development.

A copy of the memorandum, which was submitted to the Prime Minister of India on Tuesday through the Deputy Commissioner of Udalguri by the Udalguri district committee of the organisation, said that in spite of having immense natural resources and manpower, Assam is one of the most backward States in the country. Several decades of freedom could not make the condition of the people better. Many ethnic and insurgency problems have crippled the State, the memorandum added.

The AJYCP memorandum, the copy which was signed by Rubul Das and Bana Thakuria, president and secretary respectively of the Udalguri district committee, maintained that only full autonomy status to Assam could hasten the development of the State.

It is to be noted that autonomy to Assam has been the demand of the AJYCP since long which was lately supported by the ceasefire faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom also.
