NEW DELHI, Jan 27 - Ruling out an active role for now, NDFB chairman Ranjan Daimary said that he has also been working from behind the scene to make the Bodo agreement a success.
Talking to newsmen, Daimary welcomed the signing of the Bodo agreement which he said will bring a new beginning. �We were looking forward to signing of the agreement,� said Daimary, who is out on a four-week bail.
He said he has been talking to all the groups and they have been working together.
Asked about his future plans, he said that he has not chalked out any future course of action.
However, sources said that those with heinous criminal charges will not be given any reprieve. State minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in reply to a question said that those who are not facing heinous criminal charges will be assisted by the government to join police and paramilitary forces.
Thanking the Government of India and the Assam government for solving the Bodo problem, All Bodo Students� Union president Pramod Boro said they wanted peace. �This is a historic accord and we hope that the government will implement it in letter and spirit. This agreement, if implemented, will bring peace and prosperity in the BTAD,� he said.
NDFB(S) leader B Saoraigwra said the signing of the agreement was vital and now the question remains whether it will be implemented in letter and spirit.
Stating that they had to struggle for many years, Dhiren Boro said the discussions also took several years though the agreement will fulfil the internal feelings of the Bodo people.
NDFB general secretary Gobinda Basumatary said the Bodos struggled for over 30 years and the agreement was signed in the spirit of give and take.
