Bodo language in Assembly

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 17 - BPF MLA Pramila Rani Brahma has demanded a provision for the use of the Bodo language in the Legislative Assembly and for the appointment of interpreters to facilitate this exercise.

No Bodo language translators have been appointed, despite several requests. In Parliament, there is a facility, wherein MPs can speak in any of the official languages and interpreters are used for the benefit of others who do not understand that particular language. We also have a right to speak in our mother tongue, she said.

Congress MLA Himanta Biswa Sarma supported her demand and urged Deputy Speaker Bhimananda Tanti to ensure that interpreters are appointed before the next session of the Assembly.
