By Correspondent

TEZPUR, Feb 10 Till date more than 50 innocent people have been killed in fake encounters by the police and the security forces during the last few months in Sonitpur and due to the act of the armed miscreants as well.

This was claimed on Monday by the Tezpur District Bodo Sahitya Sabha and ABWWF (All Bodo Women Welfare Federation) while addressing a press conference held here at Sahitya Sabha Bhawan.

The two Boro organisations briefing media persons alleged that torture is being perpetrated upon the innocent people living either in the forest village areas or the revenue areas of Sonitpur district by the police and the security forces in the name of search operation against the insurgent groups.

On the otherhand, the organisations urged all sections of the Boro society to avoid all sort of fratricidal killings among themselves as this is harming the interests of the Bodo people. The two Bodo bodies while making the assertion said that despite repeated appeals, the Government of Assam has failed to take any step to deal with the situation.

The press conference which was also attended by the members of the Sonitpur District ABSU further said that the situation in most of the Bodo people inhabited areas of Sonitpur district has badly deteriorated in the last few months. They appealed to all sections of the Bodo society and the administration to deal with the issue properly to stop the ongoing killings.
