SIVASAGAR (DIKHOWMUKH), Sept 2 - Despite Janmastami today, there are no festivities at Decial village and the entire Dikhowmukh area as thousands of local people with heavy hearts converged on a stretch of the Dikhow embankment here where the ill-fated Swift Dzire car of Haren Bora (52) of Jayanagar in Guwahati slid down the slippery side of the embankment into the strong currents of the river while negotiating a bend in the road yesterday evening, killing all the five members of the family inside.

In the meantime, the Sivasagar district administration with the help of NDRF and SDRF divers have continued to search for the car since yesterday evening, though no trace of the vehicle was found till the time of filing this report.

Sivasagar Superintendent of Police Subudh Sonowal was supervising the entire operation. Ravi Kant, Inspector of 12 Battalion of NDRF said that his team with 32 divers have been trying their best, but strong river currents along with the muddy water had adversely affected visibility and hindered success in locating the bodies along with the vehicle.

Meanwhile, Siken Chandra Das, an expert diver of the area along with some local youths had been helping the NDRF team in the operation.

It may be mentioned that ill-fated Bora, who originally hailed from Dikhowmukh area, was visiting his relatives. He drove the car himself and was accompanied by his mother Ponou, wife Phunu and two daughters Nikshita and Dikshita.

Unfortunately, none of them could get out of the car as it floated down the river for about a furlong. After that, the back lights of the car went out as two youths of the village, responding to their desperate cries for help from inside the car, tried to pursue it in their small boat, before strong currents and darkness enveloped it.
