Bodies of all missing persons recovered in Manipur

IMPHAL, May 3 - The bodies of the three persons who went missing after their boat capsized during a storm in the Mapithel dam in Kamjong district, have been recovered after a continuous search since Sunday.

Local residents had recovered the first body, identified as that of S Rajiv (35), a resident of Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou village in Bishnupur district, on Thursday afternoon. The boat had capsized in the dam reservoir on Sunday.

The search teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force, State police, Fire Services department and naval divers recovered the second and third bodies, including that os a female, on Friday.

The two other bodies have been identified as those of N Rani (19) and S Romen (29), also from Ningthoukhong Kha-Khunou village.

An NDRF official told The Assam Tribune that the search operation was called off after the recovery of the bodies around 2 pm today.

Police informed that the bodies have been sent for autopsy.

The five-day search operation was jointly conducted by the NDRF in association with the SDRF, State police and Fire Services department and naval divers after two boats carrying 12 persons capsized in the reservoir during a storm on Sunday.

The locals rescued nine people, but three others had remained untraced.

In the wake of the incident, the Manipur Government has banned operation of all types of unauthorised boats and vessels in reservoirs, rivers, lakes and inland water bodies.
