Bobbeeta lodges complaint over alleged phone call from BJP office

By City Correspondent

GUWAHATI, Sept 25 - Bobbeeta Sharma, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) general secretary and senior party spokesperson, today filed a police complaint alleging that a BJP worker had made a phone call to her by impersonating as a TV journalist and sought information about her constituency.

In her complaint addressed to the Director General of Assam Police Kuladhar Saikia, Sharma alleged that she received a call on September 21, 2018, from Delhi phone numbers 011-23385375/23385395, and a person introducing himself as Robin from NDTV sought information about the densely populated areas of the East Guwahati constituency, from which Sharma unsuccessfully contested in the 2016 Assembly elections.

The person, Sharma stated in her complaint, also requested her to provide similar information about the neighbouring constituencies like Dispur, West Guwahati, Jalukbari, Palasbari and Hajo, saying he needed the information for the purpose of conducting an exit poll after the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Sharma stated that when she cross-checked the Delhi numbers in the MTNL directory available on the internet, they were found to be the numbers of the Bharatiya Janata Party office located on 11 Ashoka Road, New Delhi.

It has been found that such calls were made to Dr Zoiinath Sarma, senior spokesperson, APCC, and Dulu Ahmed, general secretary, APCC, too, Sharma said.

The purpose behind such calls, she said, could be to record voice samples of Congress leaders to manufacture and fabricate fake news and hate news, which is the forte of the Bharatiya Janata Party, to be used later during election time.

DGP Saikia, meanwhile, informed this correspondent that police would soon start an investigation into the allegations.
