Boat sinks in Brahmaputra

TEZPUR, Jan 13 - In a tragic accident on the Brahmaputra river, a boat carrying 10 people collided with an anchored boat resulting in missing of two children near the Bhairabi temple here this afternoon.

According to police, a group of picnickers was taking a boat ride when the incident took place. The country boat collided with an anchored boat near the river bank after the boatman lost control. �Eight persons were rescued, but two children were still missing,� police said, adding, the missing children have been identified as Ariyan Pokhral (8 years) and Koushik Pokhral (9 years).

Five of the rescued persons were admitted in the Kanaklata Civil Hospital here. They are Swarna Devi (30), Madhu Koushik (28), Hiya Devi (30), Usha Devi (18) and Samikhya Kashyap (7 years).

The SDRF has recovered the boat late in the evening. Police said the boatman is still absconding.
