AZARA, Oct 11 � Like in previous years, on the occasion of Lakshmi Puja, a boat race was held on the river Brahmaputra at Dharapur (Dhopartal) near here. Several teams participated in the race where Alif Laila (Chhaygaon-Jarpara), Maa Nurjahan (Hajo-Barni) and Maa Fatema (Hajo-Barni) won the first, second and third prizes respectively.
Addressing the prize distribution meeting which was presided over by the Dharapur (Dhopartal) Lakshmi Puja Celebration Committee president Jitendra Kalita, State BJP president Siddhartha Bhattacharya thanked the boat race teams for continuing the tradition of the game. Local MLA Hemanta Talukdar, BJP leaders Manoj Ram Phookan, Phani Sarma, PC Das, DGM, ASEB, Bhaben Medhi, Asstt. Commissioner of Income Tax deptt, young social worker Ashok Bharali among others were also present in the meeting and spoke a few words. The winning teams were awarded shields and cash money.
