JALUKBARI, May 5 - A farmer went missing after a boat capsized in the Brahmaputra river following strong winds and heavy rain due to cyclone Fani on Saturday evening near Pub Mazirgaon in the western part of Guwahati.
According to sources, five farmers � identified as Kanak Mazumdar, Arup Kalita, Jonmoni Mahanta, Ratneswar Das and Naba Kalita � were travelling back home on a wooden boat after their daily farming activities, when gusty winds and incessant rain turned the boat upside down. Naba Kalita (43) went missing, while the other four managed to swim across the river.
According to police, the incident took place near Lower Mirzapur under Azara Police Station.
Teams of the National Disaster Response Force and the SDRF launched a rescue operation late on Saturday night but could not trace him. The search resumed on Sunday, but Kalita remained untraced. Sources said the search operation will restart on Monday.
