IMPHAL, Sept 24 - The Flood Victims Demand Committee (FVDC), Chandel has announced an Economic Blockade on National Highways, district highways connecting Imphal-Moreh road and other roads from midnight of September 25.

A decision has been taken in this regard in a meeting on Friday after the Manipur Government failed to pay attention to the grievances of the flood victims, according to a press release.

The meeting also decided to intensify the agitation by shutting down businesses, institutions and government offices in the district if the State Government failed to release flood relief fund and provide compensation to the flood victims of the district at the earliest, it said.

Earlier Anal Naga Tangpi, a Chandel-based tribal body urged the State Government for immediate release of fund amounting to Rs 27 crore sanctioned by Central Government in connection with last year�s flood and landslide in the district. In last year�s flood, agricultural fields measuring around 1,967 hectares were reportedly affected in Chandel district.
