Blockade hits goods movement in Manipur

IMPHAL, Aug 17 - Movement of goods vehicles was affected on the first day of the All Manipur Written Test successful candidates of Manipur Police 2013 Batch sponsored economic blockade on the National Highways particularly along the Imphal-Mao sector.

The blockade began on August 16 midnight in protest against the Manipur Government�s failure to declare the Police recruitment result till date.

A driver of an oil tanker was seriously injured when goods trucks were stoned by some suspected blockade supporters at Senapati Bazar on Wednesday, sources said.

The injured driver has been admitted to Rajmedicity Hospital in Imphal for his head injury treatment, reports added. Police has reportedly rounded up three blockade supporters.

Bandh suspended: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the murder of M Jamkholal alias George Zou, has temporarily suspended their agitation imposed along the Imphal-Moreh road with immediate effect, following an understanding with the State Government on Tuesday, sources said.

The State Government has assured the JAC that necessary action will be taken up as soon as possible, according to the source. Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Health Minister and Tengnoupal MLA DK Korungthang and ADC chairman Sesei Zou represented the State Government in the talks.

Earlier, in a memorandum to Deputy CM, the JAC has demanded action in the brutal murder of M Jamkholal. The indefinite bandh along the Imphal-Moreh section of the Highway was imposed since midnight of August 10 in protest against the failure of the State Government to take action against a SoO signatory group and its cadres involved in the murder.
