BJYM office-bearer removed for derogatory comment on Marwaris

By Staff Correspondent

JORHAT, Nov 9 - The Jorhat district unit leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of the BJP, on Thursday removed Hari Prasad Hazarika from the post of district unit general secretary of BJYM with immediate effect.

A senior BJYM office-bearer told this newspaper on Friday that the action on Hazarika was taken following his posting of an objectionable and derogatory comment on the Marwari community in his social media account a few days back.

The office-bearer said that on Wednesday the district party leadership issued a show-cause notice to Hazarika over his remark against the community and was given 24 hours to submit his reply on the matter.

However, Hazarikas reply to the show-cause notice in which he apologised for the post and assured not to repeat such action in future, was not found to be convincing and hence was removed from the post of general secretary of Jorhat district BJYM. His case was referred to the State disciplinary committee of the organisation.

Hazarikas post triggered a huge uproar in the social media and after several Hindi newspapers published from Assam carried news reports on the issue, many people from the Marwari community reportedly complained to the BJP leadership in the State.
