AGARTALA, March 12 - Expressing serious concern over the post-poll violence in Tripura, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury has alleged it was part of BJP�s game plan to make the country opposition-free.
�In electoral battle win and defeat are inevitable but the way terror is being unleashed, it�s simply undemocratic and aimed at making the country opposition-free�, he said while speaking to media after visiting some of the post-poll violence-hit areas of the State on Sunday.
�But this is not going to happen since TDP�s Chandrababu Naidu has made a distance with BJP. Even if all the 25 Lok Sabha seats of North East go to Prime Minister Narendra Modi�s kitty, it will fall short of TDP�s seat tally�, he pointed out. In Andhra Pradesh, the number of Lok Sabha seats stands at 42.
Yechury further said he will sit with opposition parties before taking post-poll violence issue in the current session of the Lok Sabha.
Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi is on the move to bring all anti-NDA parties to a common platform to face the saffron brigade�s onslaught.
Except some urban pockets, normal situation is not prevailing as I have seen many of our party offices were either vandalised or forcefully occupied by supporters of a particular party, he said.
�Attacks, threat and intimidation are being unleashed to drive out party leaders and workers ever since the result of Assembly elections came out which is gross violation of democratic value�, Yechury stated.
He urged the new government to immediately stop violence, large scale extortion and provide medical assistance to the violence victims.
On the party�s defeat, the CPIM leader said, �We will do serious review of the electoral debacle to identify weaknesses and shortcomings for taking up remedial measures�.
CPI(M) State secretary Bijan Dhar and party central committee members � Badal Chowdhury and Gautam Das were present in the press conference.
ARMS HAUL: Police recovered a large number of primitive arms from the office of Tripura Motor Shramik Union (TMSU), CPI(M) backed organisation, at Nagerjala motor stand area on Sunday. The recovered arms included a large number of clubs, iron rods and long �Daos�.
Police said that acting on a tip-off a police contingent entered the office of TMSU-affiliate of Leftist trade union CITU and conducted a search operation and recovered the primitive arms.
Sources said that the stock of weapons had been seized and similar search operations would be carried out in all TMSU or CITU offices across the State, said a senior police officer.
