BJP workers get divided into camps in Bongaigaon

By Correspondent

BONGAIGAON, March 13 - With the former AASU leader Sankar Prasad Ray joining the Congress party after coming out of the BJP, the grassroot workers of the saffron party have got divided into three separate camps.

Small sections of BJP workers have decided to support Ray against Phani Bhusan Chaudhury, contender from the AGP-BJP combine. The other group pins hope on Prabhat Baisnab, who is going to contest the polls as an Independent after he quit the BJP protesting the partys alliance with the AGP. The remaining group of BJP workers feel confident enough to back Phani Bhusan Chaudhury against Sankar Prasad Ray.

The alliance with the AGP has sabotaged the prospects of the BJP in all the three Assembly seats in Bongaigaon district. The leaders of the district unit of BJP have even lost the courage to reopen the party office in the district headquarters after facing the ire of its workers following the alliance.

The dedicated grassroot workers of the saffron party have completely lost confidence on the partys state and national leadership for their unilateral decision of a pre-poll alliance with regional parties.

According to a majority of the BJP workers, the alliance would benefit the AGP and poison the saffron party to death. Party leaders would realise their blunder after the poll results are out.

We expected a political change in Bongaigaon seat by electing a BJP candidate against the AGP legislator, said a woman leader of BJP, who is still ready to argue with the decision-makers of the party on seat sharing matter.

However, Phani Bhusan Chaudhurys political fate would depend in this poll on the number of the contenders. Chaudhury would make his way to win the poll if the number of contenders is more, local senior citizens opined.
