BJP wins Ratabari bypoll

SILCHAR, Oct 24 - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Bijoy Malakar won the Ratabari (SC) bypoll defeating his close competitor and Congress candidate Keshab Prasad Rajak by over 24,000 votes.

According to a report of the district administration, of the 1,14,513 votes polled, Bijoy Malakar got 68,455 votes, while Rajak bagged 44, 454 votes. Birendra Rabi Das of SUCI got 944 votes and Independent candidate Parikshit Roy secured 660 votes. As many as 1, 217 votes went to NOTA, while 10 votes were rejected, sources informed.

Expressing satisfaction with the result, Bijoy Malakar said, �I am overwhelmed with the way people have poured their love and trust upon me. I will work for the development of my constituency.�

On the other hand, Congress MLA from North Karimganj Kamalakshya Dey Purakayastha said that the loss is an opportunity for them and the party to introspect and come up with better results in the days to come. �We shall introspect and work with more intensity in the coming days,� the legislator maintained.
