BJP wins all 3 seats in Karbi Anglong

DIPHU, May 19 - The BJP party has captured three seats in the hill district of Karbi Anglong for the first time. The heavyweights of Congress, those who have been holding seats for 15 years in Karbi Anglong, showed poor performances this time.

It may be mentioned here that Kharsing Engti, the senior Congress leader and HAD Minister of Tarun Gogoi-led State Government, lost the prestigious seat of Howraghat constituency.

Engti was defeated by BJP candidate and ex-CEM, KAAC, Joyram Engleng by 6,350 votes. Joyram Engleng got 43,214 votes, while Kharsing Engti got 36,864 votes.

Likewise, son of Biren Sing Engti, MP and Congress candidate of Bokajan constituency, Klengdong Engti was defeated by BJP candidate Dr Nomal Momin. Momin got 40,101 votes, while Klengdong Engti got 35,384 votes.

Congress lost the Diphu constituency. Ex-CEM, KAAC, Sum Ronghang defeated senior Congress candidate Bidya Sing Engleng by 27,999 votes. Ronghang received 64,051 votes, while Bidya Sing Engleng got 36,052 votes. Accordingly, HSDC candidate of Diphu constituency, Dr Jayanta Rongpi received 31,485 votes.

On the other hand, Congress managed to win only one seat. The lonely seat of West Karbi Anglong district went to Congress�s pocket. Sitting Congress MLA, Dr Mansing Rongpi defeated his nearest BJP contestant Arun Terang by 9,515 votes. BJP candidate Arum Terang got 53,074 votes, while Dr Mansing Terang received 62,589 votes. As many as 19 contestants were in fray for four seats in Karbi Anglong.
