BJP victory heightens saffron hope in Mizoram

By Zodinsanga

AIZAWL, March 15 - Bharatiya Janata Partys spectacular emergence in the recent election in five States, especially in neighbouring Manipur where the saffron party rose from zero to 21 seats, has heightened the partys hope of winning the next years Assembly elections in Mizoram.

BJP could not win a single seat in Manipur in the previous elections. Even though BJP was second in terms of number of seats won, it formed the government in Manipur with the support of smaller parties. What is possible in Manipur is possible in Mizoram too. We may look small now, but I am very confident that our party will emerge as victor in the next Assembly elections, Mizoram unit BJP president Dr JV Hluna said.

Hluna asseted, The BJP wave that is blowing across India will not die down in a short while. In the near future, talented and prominent people from Congress and Mizo National Front will come forward seeking to be Lotus candidates. From a long list of aspirants, we will select the partys candidates with the central leaders.

Even Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla is eager to work with the BJP-led Government at the Centre, Hluna claimed, adding, He has often talked to the central BJP leaders.

The BJP president said the people of Mizoram have gotten sick of the corrupt Congress rule and many of Congress supporters have left the party. The MNF leaders (which is now the main opposition) think that these Congress dissidents have joined it and feel great.

Hluna continued: MNF may feel big because it is part of the BJP-led North East Democratic Alliance. If they are interested in forging electoral alliance with BJP, they would have to be content with whatever we offer in terms of seats. If they dont want that they would meet the same fate of AGP in Assam, he added.
