BJP to prepare NE vision document

By Spl Correspondent

NEW DELHI, Aug 23 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president, Nitin Gadkari has proposed to prepare a North-east Vision Document 2025 to boost economic development of the region.

Announcing this at a function organised to formally launch the partys North East India Sampark Cell (NEISC), Gadkari further declared that students hailing from the region studying in different parts of the country can seek help of the partys local units, legislators and MPs, in case of any difficulty.

Students studying in different parts of the country should approach BJPs local units in respective areas, in case they face any problem. It is our national responsibility to help them, he said.

The function held at Constitution Club of India was attended by several top BJP central leaders including chairman of the Parliamentary Party, L K Advani, Leader of Opposition (Rajya Sabha) Arun Jaitley, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, besides Gadkari, State MPs, Bijoya Chakravarty, Kabindra Purkayastha, Rajen Gohain among others.

Addressing the function, Advani referring to his visit to Majuli island, which is facing constant threat from erosion, said that the largest river island may be shrinking, but the State of Assam is shrinking even faster because of the illegal influx from the neighbouring country.

Assam, he said is the only state in the country that is facing external aggression. This he said was not his words but the observation of the Supreme Court.

Both Gadkari and Advani took turns in criticising the UPA Government for its inaction in tackling the problem of illegal influx. The border with China is insecure and the Centre is oblivious to it, Gadkari opined.

Advani meanwhile, recalled how the Government at the Centre tried to subvert the verdict of the apex court, which had struck down the IM(DT) Act, by trying to bring in the offensive clause through the amended Foreigners Order.

Clarifying that India is for cordial and good relations with Bangladesh, he said it should not be at the cost of Assams future, and described the illegal influx into the State as unprecedented in the countrys history.

Referring to the UID scheme launched by Government of India, Advani said the scheme was first envisaged during the NDA regime. But the identity cards scheme had a major component involving detection, deletion and deportation of illegal migrants.

It seems it is not a high priority in governments scheme, he remarked.

The cell, which is headed by Sunil Deodhar, an RSS activist, who has been working in the North-east for the past 10 years, aims to provide assistance to students from the region in admission, accommodation, city-related information, employment counselling among others.
